Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha assured Mareesa Thapa, daughter of martyred ADDC Raj Kumar Thapa, that she will be appointed as an Assistant Law Officer upon completing her law studies. This commitment was made in response to the officer’s sacrifice during unprovoked Pakistani shelling in Rajouri. The administration pledges ongoing support to the family.

In a heartening gesture amidst ongoing tensions at the Line of Control (LoC), Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor (LG) Manoj Sinha has assured a government job to the daughter of a police officer who tragically lost his life during cross-border shelling by Pakistan.

The announcement was made during an official condolence visit to the officer’s family, where LG Sinha emphasized the administration’s commitment to the welfare of security personnel and their families. “The sacrifices made by our police and armed forces will never be forgotten. We stand by the families who bear the heaviest burden of these conflicts,” he stated.

A Father Lost, A Promise Made

The officer, identified as Sub-Inspector Rakesh Choudhary, was killed in action near the Poonch sector when Pakistani forces violated the ceasefire agreement by initiating unprovoked shelling. He had served in the Jammu and Kashmir Police for over 15 years and was known for his bravery and community involvement.

LG Sinha, while expressing condolences to the bereaved family, announced that the officer’s daughter will be provided a secure government job under the SRO-43 policy, which allows dependent family members of deceased government employees to be absorbed into government service.

Community and Political Reactions

Political leaders across party lines lauded the gesture, calling it a much-needed morale booster for families of personnel serving in conflict zones. Human rights groups and veterans also praised the swift administrative action.

Social media too saw an outpouring of support. Citizens applauded the government’s commitment to backing its front-line defenders not only in words but in tangible actions.

Background: Ceasefire Violations Continue

This tragic incident comes amid a rise in ceasefire violations by Pakistan despite the February 2021 agreement to observe restraint along the LoC. Analysts believe these recent violations are strategic moves by Pakistan to divert international attention.

India has strongly condemned the unprovoked aggression and reiterated its right to respond proportionately to protect its forces and civilians.

Policy Support for Martyrs’ Families

Over the years, both central and state governments have introduced several welfare measures for the families of security personnel. In addition to the SRO-43 scheme, ex gratia payments, scholarships for children, and housing benefits are being extended to the next of kin.

Conclusion

LG Manoj Sinha’s assurance sends a strong message — that the sacrifices of India’s bravehearts will not go in vain. In honoring the fallen by empowering their families, the administration is not only providing solace but also reinforcing the social contract between the state and its protectors.
